Breath Work, Luge Rides, and SCOTUS Surprises. Let's Roll.

The Roll Up

Well hey there folks,

Now that bats everywhere can breathe a collective sigh of relief (RIP Ozzy Osbourne), let’s get down to the business. The business of what, you ask? Well, Pinky, the business of taking over the world… er, developing an app and (wait for it…) website AND affiliated newsletter AND blog AND stick around and see how else we can bring together the disability community and allies to help shape the world to be more inclusive! Phew. Lofty goals, eh? While the Texas right can try to gerrymander their way into power, we like to think there are better ways to initiate change for good. Because as Beyonce says, “This ain’t Texas!” (No offense to any of our fine Texan friends.)

Anywho. We’ve got South Park creators, and fellow Coloradoans making money moves, and delivering some serious sass toward Paramount+ and Trump, we’ve got starving children, we’ve got a new dinosaur (how?), and we’ve got OpenAI ChatGPT’s Agent release taking over the internet and maybe someone’s job. And somehow, hash browns are trending?! So, ya know, just your typical Wednesday in 2025.

Over at Roll, we’ve got new app updates (bug fixing), a new website, a soon-to-be-new-blog, and the same ol’ newsletter. Ever quirky, ever snarky, but ever hopeful.

I’m keeping the intro short today folks – please check out the stories we wanted to bring to your inbox today, and check out our Roll updates in the Roll’s Nuggets section below. And Go Nuggets (oh wait, it’s not basketball season yet, SHEESH.) But how are all my Nuggets fans feeling after the draft and subsequent trades? I, for one, am excited and have already put some future bets out there. And how about Luka Dončić and the Lakers? How can anyone hate on Luka when he does stuff like this?

As always, thanks for the support.

~Sarah

Updates on the App

1. The baboons and their minions (that’d be us, or are we the baboons? Deep thoughts by Sarah E.) have been hard at work. And because we are a pack (wait a second, what IS a group of baboons called? Hint: the name fits, and I’ll give the answer below) of baboons we have succumbed to stops and starts, life taking over, and well, the fact that we are all still trying to do this in addition to our day jobs (what?!). But! Updates are coming. As in, the app is getting a little refresh/bug fixing. So if it’s been stalling out on you or doing any other funky things, give it a little update in the store or wherever you download apps. Should be ready today or tomorrow. Keep your eyes open 👀

2. Later this week, we are Movin’ On Up! (Cue music) and releasing a new website. It’ll be a little cleaner, a little sleeker, and will feature sections to house archived newsletters (I know you all want to go back and find that Wheel-y Good news story to share with a friend! Or maybe you need help piecing together this obsession with baboons) and will also be the landing page to our new…

3. Blog! That’s right, this troop is joining the ranks. We are putting the final touches on the first batch of blog posts, and are hoping to hit you with some additional content “right out the gate,” so be on the lookout for that in the coming weeks. Just dotting all the i’s and crossing all the t’s, as they say. We will likely hit some long-form blogs and then have some related shorter forms so if you’ve got a short attention span (who doesn’t these days) we will have something for everyone.

4. Sensory features. I assure you this has not fallen off our radar. Along with everything else, it’s coming. So stick around, ‘round, ‘round, ‘round, ‘round. (Thank you, Queen 🐝)

P.S. Answer: A merry (or not-so-merry) band of baboons is known as a TROOP. How freaking appropriate is that? (Says the former actor/singer/dancer — and yes, in that order. IYKYK.)

We’d love to hear from you! Did we miss the mark, or do you have an idea to make it better? Reach out at [email protected].

Accessi-stories From Around the World

Sponge Bob could never. Taking "giving voice to the voiceless" to a whole other level—researchers at IIT Guwahati and Ohio State have developed an innovative sensor that transforms silent breath into spoken words. Say more. By detecting subtle vibrations from exhalations through a sponge-like sensor, this tech uses neural networks to decode breaths into audible speech. Imagine a future where people previously unable to communicate verbally could effortlessly control smart devices, express complex wants and needs, and speak directly with loved ones—gaining unprecedented independence and nuance in everyday interactions. A breath of fresh air, indeed. To read more about the science behind it and more of the story click right here (it’s free, don’t worry — I wouldn’t do that to you.)

Minute Meditation Station: Do you know how important breath can be? I am sure you do. While we’re talking breath, won’t you please join me in taking some deep breaths? Box method, 4-7-8, Lion breaths, whichever you choose — my favorite? 5 counts in through the nose and as long as you can go out through the mouth, repeated 5 times. Always pulls me back from the bring of a panic attack. Ready? Let’s get out of that lizard brain for a second and back into executive functioning. GO.

😄 Wheel-y Good News 😁

Good Folks Doin’ Good Thangs

Calling all thrill seekers and camper wannabes (it’s me, hi, I’m the wannabe, it’s me – my summer camps involved singing and touring a juice factory). Have you seen this adventure sports park? It’s called Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, it's in Western Michigan, and it feels like they’ve thought of everything, but don’t take my word for it, read an account of a day in the park HERE. Between zip-lines, archery, and a freaking LUGE, there is something for everyone. Muskegon helpfully suggests that the park has tons of modifications, whether you have mobility issues or need modified communication with staff for hearing or visual impairments. If you aren’t sure what might be available to your specific needs, you are able to reach out ahead of time to make a personalized plan. This is a plan, and a park, we can all roll with (yes, I had to).

I’m so curious, would YOU try this???

And do you have a story you want to share? We want to know about it. Seriously. Send your story to [email protected]

⚖️ Policy & Prejudice 🤫

Keeping the ol’ checks & balances in check

Tricksy SCOTUSes (PLEASE SOMEone tell me you get my nerdy references). In some rare good news (these days) from the Supreme Court, we have been gifted a unanimous decision (Clutching my pearls!) as SCOTUS ruled in favor of a Minnesota teen with epilepsy, dropping the absurdly high "bad faith" requirement for students suing schools over disability discrimination. Now, proving “deliberate indifference” is enough, matching the standard used elsewhere under the ADA. Advocates are cheering the long-overdue fix—but keep it to golf claps. While this ruling levels the legal field, it's not a magic wand for better accommodations. Already depleted schools and school systems wary of lawsuits might defensively tighten up, possibly making cooperative solutions trickier. So, call it a win, but brace yourself: actual improvements still depend heavily on proactive schools (and exhausted parents and advocates).

If you want to read more about the case and the ruling click HERE And again, free. Not trying to pull a Gollum on any of you, I assure you.

However you may feel about the next election cycle, it will be upon us before we even know it. In order to take action (at least in the U.S.), you have to be registered to vote, and then take action TO vote. Our friends over at Feel Good Action take out all the guesswork and make it super easy for you. Check them out below.

🔥 Roll Mobility WeFunder 🔥

Heyo! I know I know, I’m going to do the thing I don’t want to do, and ask for a little push over the edge here. We are so grateful for the support of our ever-growing community. If we can get over this next level, then it puts us in a great position to be around for the long haul, and we really really want to be.
