The Roll Up

Well hey there folks,
Happy day to all that celebrate – that’s right, October 1st was International Raccoon Appreciation Day! Oh. That’s not a holiday of renown? Weird, it should be. Like all things baboons, we love a raccoon over here at Roll. I just feel like baboons and raccoons would definitely be friends.
Ah yes, the time of year when the beautiful eye-catching pumpkin patches, towering corn mazes, felt hats, and photo-ops at every turn fill our news feeds with anything other than current events. Yes, the time of year we can pretend we are living in a photography set of Martha Stewart’s Living magazine, making us question if we are “doing enough” (don’t worry, you are). Also, I am pretty sure that the amount of sweat dripping down my face and lack of Instagram-worthy photos this weekend tells a different story than the pages of a magazine.
While summer hangs on by tooth, nail, and raggedy bloody claw, the world continues to turn. The turning world, although, does not include the U.S. federal government which is shut down – again. However, ICE is moving full steam ahead. Hegseth called military leaders to convene last week to thunderous tepidity. We also tried to send the National Guard to… (checks notes) Portland, Oregon? Oh, and the U.S. Supreme Court began a new term. In other parts of the world: the 2025 Para Athletics Championships wrapped up in New Delhi, France’s new Prime Minister lasted about a month on the job, Israel and Hamas peace negotiations began again, and Egypt is getting ready to open a brand new museum. In preparation for the grand opening they have opened the tomb of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Um, guys, I, uh, think we’ve seen this one and it didn’t go very well for everyone involved, and given the state of the world, maybe let’s NOT open ancient tombs unleashing God knows what onto the world? Just a thought, but what do I know?
Here is what I do know for certain. Always throw salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.
Oh! That was not my certainty to give, but that of one of my favorite authors, Alice Hoffman. Despite those not being my words, they are certainly appropriate for the season, and I would humbly like to add a final thought from the Roll community – We go further together.
As always, thank you for the support.
~Sarah
P.S. Is anyone as excited as I am for the upcoming Denver Nuggets season???

Updates on the App
We recorded our first Spotlight (what we are calling our version of a video interview) and as soon as we get that edited we will get it into your hot sticky hands (wait, why are your hands hot and sticky?).
Jerod (see previous newsletter if you are wondering who the heck Jerod is) got some deserved recognition, surprises, and some sweet looks at two different stadiums last week, and we will be sharing those behind-the-scenes videos on our socials shortly.
We have a backlog of development stuff we are working on to get the app running the way we want it to which includes some new features that we will share with you as they come.
And for the person on our social asking where they can buy stickers — STAY TUNED. SOON COME.
We really need to reach our WeFunder goal of 50k so we can take Roll to the next level and be around for the long haul – will you help us get there by sharing our WeFunder in your own network?
We’d love to hear from you! Did we miss the mark, or do you have an idea to make it better? Reach out at [email protected].
🤙 Say What Say What? 📣

Thanks @Greggiebabbah — we are always working on it!

We’ve all super glued a cut when we weren’t sure it really warranted a trip to the ER before (right? RIGHT?!). Now imagine your surgeon saying they’re going to super glue your bone back together. Scientists in South Korea have developed a tool —basically a modified glue gun — that can 3D print custom bone grafts directly onto fractures during surgery. The material isn’t just old horses from the Elmer factory though (no disrespect Elmers, we know that isn’t true): it is made of bone-healing hydroxyapatite and biocompatible thermoplastic (yes, I did have to say that slowly in my head multiple times) that melts just enough to mold perfectly into jagged bone breaks, no pre-fab needed.
Why it Matters: for people with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, or conditions like osteoporosis—where bones are more vulnerable to breaks or slower to heal—this could be a total game-changer. Roughly 1 in 4 men over 50 and 1 in 2 women over 50 experience fractures related to osteoporosis, and those with mobility disabilities are at an increased risk due to decreased bone density and falls. A “print-as-you-go” bone graft that promotes regrowth and releases antibiotics to prevent infection could drastically shorten recovery times and reduce complications. Science just made the ultimate craft hack. Scrapbookers and DIY queens, consider this your 21 glue-gun salute. 🎆

😄 Wheel-y Good News 😁
Good Folks Doin’ Good Thangs
Healthy debate, discussion, dialogue—and okay, a little bit of pontification—happen frequently in my house (I come by it naturally). My husband and I were just talking about neurodivergency the other night. As someone diagnosed with ADHD himself we were discussing brilliant minds and generalizations and how people with ADHD are the ones coming up with the great ideas and those with ADHD and autism are then researching the sh*t out of those ideas. And honestly? Without making too sweeping of a generalization, there’s a grain of truth in that.
It got me thinking about all the accommodations we expect neurodivergent people to make, while rarely asking the so-called “normative” brain to adjust in return. Systems are built to favor one way of thinking and that’s the real accessibility barrier.
That’s why this news is so important: The Neurodiversity Alliance is expanding. In just one year, they’ve grown from reaching 60 schools to more than 600 campuses nationwide. This isn’t just more logos on a website, it’s real on-the-ground peer support. In August, over 130 student leaders converged in Denver to share strategies, talk about navigating “neurotypical” work cultures, and lift each other up in a space where masking isn’t the default.
The goal isn’t just inclusion, it’s transformation. Because when we start untangling ableism from how our schools, workplaces, and identities are designed, we open up room for all neurotypes. The systems shift. We all win.

⚖️ Policy & Prejudice 🤫
Keeping the ol’ checks & balances in check
INCYMI: Remember when we covered the long-awaited Transportation Department rule (July 8 issue — Raccoons Have Hands) that was supposed to bring long-overdue protections for wheelchair users during air travel? The Biden administration had already punted enforcement to August 2025, but surprise! That date came and went, and now the DOT says it still won’t enforce key parts of the rule.
In other words: after years of wheelchairs being treated like bowling balls (see our Jet2 “Holiday” meme for Exhibit A), the promised accountability is still somewhere lost in the security line. This rule was supposed to finally require airlines to treat mobility devices with the same care as passengers themselves — because for many travelers, their wheelchair is their independence. Instead, we’re once again left with a very on-American brand of “left holding the bag.”
File this one under: policy promises without follow-through. And while we’re at it, remember why voting matters. November is around the corner—double-check your registration and make sure your voice (and your vote) is ready for takeoff. ✈️
